VOLUNTEERS IN PATROL (VIP)
| Having as many "eyes and ears" is a key part of the solution to achieving a low crime rate. One of way we achieve this is through an extension of our Police Auxiliary program called "Volunteers in Patrol" (VIP). What do they do? Volunteers in Patrol (VIP) are members of the Police Auxiliary who undergo additional training so that they may assist on-duty police officers with their patrols of the community. VIP members are assigned to specific areas where crime has been reported and they report to on-duty police officers any suspicious persons, vehicles, or activities. VIP members may also take with them a hand-held radar unit once they have completed the necessary training program.
VIP members drive a patrol car that has been redesigned with the VIP logo on it and is equipped with a yellow light bar and a police radio. This vehicle is easily viewed by citizens and clearly shows the VIPs as designated representatives of the Police Department.
What training do I need? Prior to participation, each Auxiliary member must complete an eight-hour training course. Interested? Email mailto:hvpd@highlandvillage.org?subject=Volunteers In Patrol.
