“You Spot It, You Got It.”
It happened twice in three days. I try to ask a question, and the person I’m speaking with assumes they know what I’m going to ask so they interrupt me to answer. I can tell by the answer I’m given, that the person I’m speaking with doesn’t understand what I’m asking. Again, I attempt to ask; I’m interrupted, answered (incorrectly), and summarily dismissed.
The first time it happened, it was a colleague I was speaking with. Although perturbed, I chalked it up to bad timing and believed that perhaps she was distracted. The second time is was a government official, and since I knew my question was out of general interest rather than a desperate need to know, I let it go. Still, I was really bothered by these instances and kept replaying them in my head.
“Why is this happening to me?”, I asked myself. It was then that my Yetti’s words were ringing in my ears. “You spot it, you got it.” He says this all the time because the thing that makes us the most annoyed at others is often
something we are guilty of ourselves. Dang! Was it possible that I was not doing a good job of listening to people that come to me for information? I felt convicted.
Although I couldn’t think of a specific instance when I had done what was done to me, I am now hyper aware. I can’t always guarantee that I will understand the question and answer correctly, but I will do my best to listen and be kind.
Wishing you a quick sale!
