Many years ago, Gutters on a home were considered a "luxury". Over time, they became a necessity. Now I'm seeing only SELECTIVE gutter placement on most new homes and not all the way around. Talking with a roofer recently, he said that many times, when the pull off the roof and facia, the GUTTERS are a major source of wood rot as they hold not only moisture but also debris, such as leaves and such against the boards where they are attached. So have homeowners re-thought Gutters or are Gutters a necessity now? (by the way, the gutter issue is independent of the fact that we got splashed on yesterday but haven't actually gotten any rain to NEED gutters lately!)
