Where's the best place to live and raise a family in Houston, Texas?
I have lived in Houston, Texas since 1989. During that time, I have moved 15 times. I've lived in almost every area outside of Beltway 8, all the way around Houston. I've lived in Katy, Cypress, Sugar Land / Stafford, Tomball, Magnolia, Conroe, The Woodands, Porter, Kingwood, & Spring. The only parts I haven't lived in would be Pasadena and Pearland, but I have working in those areas many times. This gives me some real experiences with most of the city outer city. With all this experience in the Houston area, where would I chose to live and raise my family?
Kingwood, TX is my city of choice. I think it's Houston's best kept secret. As a REALTOR, I don't like to limit myself to one area. I like to work anywhere within an hour of my house. Living in Kingwood allows me to work anywhere in the Houston area because there is virtually no traffic on Highway 59 and it will quickly get you anywhere you want to be. I can meet clients in Cypress, Sugar Land, and even Pearland all within an hour of my house. I can be downtown in 25 minutes. I have never lived anywhere else in Houston where I could do that.
The schools in Kingwood are some of the best schools in the country. Kingwood High School and Kingwood Park High School have some of the highest ratings anywhere in the Houston area. This is one of the main factors that cause Kingwood to get attention from relocating visitors.
The Woodlands, TX is very nice as well, but it gets a lot of "through" traffic from all the neighboring areas. When I work in The Woodlands, I end up stuck in traffic much of the time. It is one of the nicest parts of Houston, but the traffic causes me too much frustration. Katy & Cypress, TX are very nice as well, but there are not many trees in the area, so it doesn't really feel like home to me.
Kingwood is name "the liveable forest" for a reason. It is sourrounded by many tress that shade the area and create a canopy of protection from the draining Texas heat. Kingwood still has a small town feel to it that no other area in Houston has. It is one of the best places in the Houston area to raise a family.
In all my experience in the Houston area, Kingwood, TX is definitely my #1 place to live.
