Trinity, Polk and Grimes County Fires

Channel 13 Houston News reported tonight on yet another fire threatening Grimes County. It is reported that there are almost 24 fires burning in our Great State of Texas. The Piney Woods, my home area is reported to be one of the worst fires in the History of Texas. Trinity and Polk Counties are finally beginning to contain the fire that has officially destroyed nearly 18,200 acres. Thank heavens this fire is about 40% contained and there has been minimal loss of homes. I cry for our wildlife and beautiful forests.

Now, a neighboring County, Grimes County is fighting yet another blaze that has consumed more than 6100 acres and they are currently evacuating approximately 1800 residents. The American Red Cross has set up a shelter that will house up to 300 people at the Navasota High School if you are needing any assistance or need a place to stay.

If you have been asked to EVACUATE please DO. The SPCA of Houston has set up shelters for your small pets at Grimes Co. Auction Barn, and the other shelter is at the Grimes Co. Fairgrounds for livestock.

Please watch out for your State! Never throw a cigarette out a window. If you do anything involving fire, stay in and watch the area till you are totally certain the fire has been extinguished.

Our most recent fire in Grimes County was caused by a simple Bar-B-Q, a spark. and much wind.

I send all my prayers and wishes for a safe and effective containment. I am so proud of our Fire Fighters and the help that has poured in to Texas.

Pray for rain. Just look at the graph and you will begin to realize our need for rain. And, the 4th of July?

No firecrackers please!
