A part of state Highway 360, beginning at Green Oaks in South Arlington and stretching all the way to U.S. Highway 287 in Mansfield, becoming a toll road continues to move ahead despite the wishes of many Mansfield residents.
That effort is expected to get under way within the next five years and is 1 of 5 Metroplex projects to begin around the same time. Still, many residents are upset with the fact that the project continues as a toll road. Unfortunately, little can be done about it.
Plans have been around for some time now to create through lanes, and in 2005, Mansfield, Grand Prairie and Arlington passed resolutions to look into speeding up that process. The big problem has been paying for the improvements and public funding for the $250 million project was going to take over 20 years to get. So, to get the project done without waiting two decades, drivers will likely have to help foot the bill.
Although most residents would like it to be a freeway, the fact of the.matter is, if they are to get this done as soon as possible, it will have to be a toll road.
Officials are scheduled to meet at the end of the month to discuss the issue.
