I just received this email from a friend and wanted to pass it along to anyone interested. Although I am not currently involved with this organization I plan on getting involved with this Secret Santa for Seniors 2008 project here's why:

Subject: SECRET SANTA PROJECT HELP NEEDED!!!
Hello volunteers,
I am writing to all of you to ask for your help in getting the word out about Meals on Wheels' need for additional Secret Santa participation. I know that many of you may think that it is far too early to think about the holidays. However, in planning for such a large program, we must plan far in advance. For those of you unfamiliar with our Secret Santa project, this is where we ask each one of our Meals on Wheels clients what they would like for the holidays. Each client provides a list and we then distribute these gift wish lists to interested participants. Interested participants will purchase the gifts requested for their assigned senior. We ask that each person spend a minimum of $25 per senior.
At this point, CCCoA has 650 Meals on Wheels clients. As of October 6, 2008, we have only assigned 315 of those clients Secret Santa gifts. This means that we are still in need of 335 participants to purchase gifts for the remaining 335 clients.
Our deadline for people to request a gift tag(s) for a senior is Monday, November 3rd. I am asking for your help to pass our information out regarding our Secret Santa program. Please tell your family, friends, neighbors, church members, social/civic group members, co-workers, etc. that we are in need of help this holiday season. Anything you can do to get the word out would be much appreciated. I have attached a copy of the Secret Santa program flyer. This flyer contains all the information and deadlines for our program. You may print copies and distribute them to interested parties. If you would like me to print copies for you, I'd be happy to do so. Also, if you would like for me to come out and speak at a group function about the program, I'd be happy to do that. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks in advance for your help!

Karen: we have an organization here that is called Hands On Greenville (HOG) they do something similiar! I want to also be a part of it. This is a good idea!
That's great Marci!
Karen,
Looks like a great cause. We need to take care of our seniors...someday we will be them...
Ann
Ain't that the truth Ann?
Karen,
Unfortunately, most people do not seem to see it that way..
Ann
I suppose when they hit a certain age they may see it differently Ann. After I read your comment I thought about a quote from a movie, (I can't recall but I think it was Cocoon) that said, "youth is wasted on the young" and I thought how appropriate! I have always had an appreciation for my elders. They have so much to teach us, if only we stop to listen.
Karen,
Wise words... We should appreciate our elders. Other cultures certainly do.
Ann
Karen - we know alot of the same people. I know Lara from Junior League and I had her come and speak to my Rotary last year and we purchased items for Secret Santa. Great organization!
Amen Ann.
Hi Linda, to be honest I just heard about this project from another friend and I've only just this week become aware of the need for the Secret Santas. But I already agree, it's a great cause and organization.
