McKinney ISD School Hours -- McKinney, TX
New starting hours have been announced for students of McKinney ISD. When school starts again in August 2010, the schedule will be as follows:
High School hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Elementary School hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Middle School hours are from 8:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.
Several reasons were given for the change in schedule. To name just a few, the new times allow for fewer conflicts with students and teachers involved in UIL competitions. This also results in fewer substitutes needed to cover the time when permanent teachers would be gone for these events. Additionally, with Elementary school starting earlier, the morning care program currently in place (which costs McKinney ISD $140,000 a year) will not be necessary.
The new times also make sense for families who rely on their older high school children to help care for any younger elementary aged children in the afternoon.
One thing is certain -- the middle school kids aren't complaining! They have the latest start time of all the students and are undoubtedly looking forward to sleeping in while they can!
