Information at the end of this blog for Wurstfest

2009

Set on the banks of two rivers just 30 minutes north of San Antonio. New Braunfels is great for families to enjoy all year. The spring-fed Comal and the swifter Guadalupe, provide tubing and swimming for the entire family. Families for generations have come to this area just for that reason.

Then you have Schlitterbahn. The park is filled with trees and shady picnic areas along the Comal River. It is built in German architecture of castles and towers. The rides are everyone's favorite. They lead you in a tube down a mile of twists and turns before splashing you into the Comal. Seems every year they add something new. If you didn't know, Schlitterbahn bulds many of the rides in theme parks all over the world and is headquarted in New Braunfels.

Then there is the famous Gruene Texas area: Located just five minutes from downtown New Braunfels Texas. A unique place to eat is the famous Gristmill Restaurant, which was once a cotton gin. Just as you enter, the Gristmill is Gruene Hall, the oldest dance hall in Texas.

German Heritage Galore over at Gruene Texas

Then there is the Gruene Mansion Inn . This wonderful old landmark mansion has been preserved. Antique shops and history all in one place at Gruene. Where tourist walking the streets in Gruene still have the right away. People stop, smile, and wave and say howdy. The best ever is when they have Gruene Market Day's and vendors have unique items for sale. Carl did a blog on the Gristmill and the Gruene Mansion a few weeks ago when we went to eat at the Gristmill (my favorite baby back ribs)>

In downtown New Braunfels Texas , you have the square and the beautiful old Gazebo where folks meet and the bands sometimes still plays great music. The courthouse and main street antique shops. A walk to the famous Faust Hotel and Naegelin's Bakery where every day they serve the best-baked goods ever (since 1868 oldest bakery in Texas) Try the apple streusel.

It's great during Christmas when it al dressed for the holidays!

The famous Wurstfest held each year that brings thousands of visitors to New Braunfels. This year it is a ten-day salute to sausage and tradition www.wurstfest.com. Close to where Wurstfest is held is Landa Park that offers everything you would ever want in a city park.

Coming up this month!

I could go on forever why I love New Braunfels; it's not just me, it is the generations that have lived in this area. Generations that have preserved the proud German heritage. A place where people are friendly, and willing to share. A place that still maintains the small home town feelilng, neighbor taking care of neighbor.
