FROM THE CITY OF PEARLAND: If all goes as scheduled, the public can expect major traffic pattern changes on Main St. (SH 35) on or about Nov. 21 as the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) contractor construction progresses on the roadway. Please note, the Nov. 21 schedule is preliminary, and subject to change.
Both lanes of southbound traffic will be shifted to the new concrete lanes along the west side of the project. Also, a temporary asphalt transition is planned for installation from the new lanes back to the old lanes immediately north of the Broadway St. intersection. This transition will allow southbound traffic to rejoin the original (old) pavement just before crossing through the Broadway intersection.
Accessibility to properties along either side of the roadway will be affected during construction of middle lanes and medians along the center of the new roadway - northbound traffic will not be able to directly access all driveways on the west side of the road, and southbound traffic will not be able to directly access all driveways on the east side of the road. Businesses are advised to communicate these changes to their pick-up and delivery service providers, and coordinate routes with the new traffic configuration. The public should be prepared for this forthcoming major change to the roadway, and remember that there will be a transition period as drivers become accustomed to this new configuration and acquaint themselves with the new roadway.
The roadway changes will reflect the final configuration of the reconstructed roadway, which will include a raised center median with turn cut-throughs at various locations along the route and intersections. As always, TxDOT and the City of Pearland urge ALL Drivers to exercise a heightened sense of caution while driving and maneuvering in the area of construction. The changes to the current traffic pattern will impose new challenges to all vehicles operating in this corridor but are necessary to complete the reconstruction. TxDOT and their contractor will be working to prosecute the work of this phase as quickly as possible.
