
Protect Yourself From Texas Notary Rip Off Artists There Lurking
I can't tell you how many times are company has seen local and statewide advertistements on Craigslist, other notary websites, flyers and heard from dozens of texas mobile notaries charging way more than they can by Texas law to you the unassuming customer. Or notaries not asking for proper identification from people when they do there mobile notary...um that defeats the whole purpose of even getting a document notarized! :O
Below is the Texas notary gospel mandated by the Texas Secretary of State's office.
Per the Texas Secretary of State's Office and official Website a licensed Texas Notary can NOT certify copies of these documents below:
1. Birth certificates
2. Death certificates
3. Marriage certificates
4. Divorce decrees
5. Passports
6. Social security cards
7. Military identification cards
8. Visas, certificates of naturalization or other identification cards
or documents issued by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
9. Wills, deeds and other documents filed for public record with the
county Articles of incorporation, certificates of formation or
other business documents recorded with the Texas Secretary of State or
other state official
10. College or high school transcripts or diplomas
Acceptable Identifcation Forms
- A valid state driver's license
- A valid identification card issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) or equivalent agency in another state
- A valid passport issued by the U.S. government
Unacceptable Identification Forms
- A credit card
- A debit card
- A library card
- A U..S social security card
- A private company's security badge
- A letter of introduction
Please note there is NO exceptions to these rules, so please don't ask our company or any of our notaries to sign any document listed.
The maximum fees that a licensed notary in the state of Texas may charge:
Acknowledgments or proof of any deed or other instrument in writing, for registration, including certificate and seal $6.00 for the first signature and $1.00 for each additional signature
Administering an oath or affirmation with certificate and seal $6.00
All certificates under seal not otherwise provided for $6.00
Copies of all records and papers in the notary public's office $0.50 for each page
Taking the deposition of witness $0.50 for each 100 words
Swearing a witness to a deposition, certificate, seal and other business connected with taking the deposition $6.00
Protesting a bill or note for non-acceptance or non-payment, register and seal $4.00
Each notice of protest $1.00
Protesting in all other cases $4.00
Certificate and seal to protest $4.00
All notarial acts not provided for $6.00
Please note the state of Texas allows mobile notaries to charge anything they want for traveling to and from notary jobs, print out charges and wait times that maybe incurred. Places like jails, courthouses or hospitals usually have some form of wait times for notaries.
