I was reading an article in Newsweek by Joe Kotkin today about escaping the recession. It was extremely interesting to me since the Texaplex is the #1 Destination for Job Seekers! The Texaplex, which consists of Houston, Austin, Dallas & San Antonio, has the energy sector going for it as well as an appreciation of the entrepreneurial mindset. In fact, Mr. Kotkin goes as far as to say that "For sheer economic promise, no place beats Texas." It appears that although the Lone Star State slowed down a bit in growth, we haven't been hit as bad as the rest of the country. In fact, Texas has 58 Fortune 500 companies - more than any other state.

Living in Texas has all kinds of benefits not even mentioned in the article. Take the weather as one benefit. Here in the greater Houston area, we have excellent weather the majority of the year. January & February may feel a bit chilly but we can play golf year round. And although a hurricane may head our way now & again, it's something we have time to prepare for. Also, that golfing year round thing is a quite the bonus! Even in cooler temperatures, just toss the propane heater in your golf cart and hit the course for some fun. In our community of Walden on Lake Houston, the couples Superbowl golf outing is always well-attended. (Superbowl XLV this year is in Texas too - Cowboys Stadium on February 6, 2011) Add in our housing availability, the sheer number of communities to select from with loads of features in every location and you have the ideal place to live.
