Waterfront Farm and Ranch properties in the greater Austin area

Waterfront Farm and Ranch properties in the greater Austin area

When you think about Texas farm and ranch property do you think about them being waterfront? Before I moved to the greater Austin area I didn't! My mind's eye saw lots of rolling pasture and wide open spaces! Silly me! Texas is all about water properties and there are some wonderful Waterfront Farm and Ranch Properties.

The Colorado River

The (Texas ) Colorado River origninates just south of Lubbock Texas and winds it's way down to the Gulf Coast at Matagorda Bay.

Resevoir Lakes on the Colorado River

Along the Colorado River in the Hill Country and greater Austin area there is a series of resevoir lakes in a chain which includes Lake Buchannan, Inks Lake, Lake LBJ, Lake Marble Falls, Lake Travis, Lake Austin - a constant level lake, and Ladybird Lake which is the gem of downtown Austin!

Other major fresh water lakes

There is more! There are also some other major resevoir fresh water lakes besides those in the Colorado River chain such as Brandy Creek, Canyon, Georgetown,Granger, Medina and Walter E. Long all within a short distance from central Austin.

Number of fishing lakes in area counties

But that's not all! Each of the surrounding Counties have their own lakes for fishing and recreation: Bastrop County total of 32, Fayette County - 41, Hays County - 29, Lee County - 36 and Travis County - 16 , and Williamson County with a total of 62 lakes (and this is a short list of the 300 plus counties in Texas).

Private lakes

One needs to consider how many private lakes there are that have been created originally as water catchment resevoirs, or stock tanks, as they are called here in Texas, that were/are necesarry to water large herds of cattle that roam those rolling pastures and wide open spaces that were my picture of Texas.
