GALVESTON BEACH RESTORATION

Tuesday, October 23, 2007 Commissioner of the Texas General Land office, Jerry Patterson, announced the approval of a $13.5 million dollar project to start restoring 3 miles of Galveston beaches. The restoration will add 200 feet of beach from the west end of the Seawall into Spanish Grant Subdivision. The project is expected to start around October of 2008 and should be finished within a year. The project will be funded by various local, county, and state coastal erosion funds. This project will be the biggest in Texas history and may get bigger if local funding can raise more money to extend the project east and possibly to the San Luis Pass. “This is the beginning of a new era for Galveston beaches,” Patterson said. The economic impact of such a project will help Galveston to continue to grow and restore itself as the playground of Texas. A report done by the University of Texas at Austin shows that the return on investment for $30 million spent on coastal protection will be more than $127 million over 20 years. Ryson Real Estate is excited by this news and we think it will help increse the price of the condos and homes that will have this new sand added to their beaches.
