After a long hot summer...My Morning Glory Plants bloomed
Now that we finally received some much needed rain over the weekend some of my plants have started to bloom. In normal circumstances my Morning Glory vines bloom all Summer. This is the first flower this Summer which the season is now Autumn.
You can see how this Morning Glory vine wrapped the vines around the fence. This was the only one that had opened when I walked up to the garden this Glorious Tuesday morning.
Morning Glory vine (Ipomoea tricolor) is a fast growing tender vine that can easily climb a trellis or fence by twining itself around the support. The funnel-like flowers open in the morning (hence the name morning glory) and last for one day.
You can plant the Morning Glory in any type of soil but it grows better in poor well-drained soil and blooms best in full sun to light shade. I have this one planted in a pot next to a wired fence panel so that it can climb. Once established Morning Glory can self-seed and spread and takes little care. Seems the less care I give it the happier it is. I like to have several pots of Morning Glory vine plants as they tend to draw lady bugs for my garden.
This vine blooms several colors at one time. Really a wonderful and fun plant to enjoy once it is established.
Plants and flowers add great color to your landscape. Many you can start from an inexpensive packet of seeds.
Morning Glory Vines grow very well in the Texas Hill Country landscape.
