When we turn our clocks back... it is time to check your smoke alarms and detectors

Think Ahead - November 6, 2011 - Time to turn your clocks back and Check your Smoke Alarms, Carbon Monoxide Detectors. Just a simple step can possibly save a life.

New batteries to replace the old batteries, or install new alarms if your old alarms do not work properly. Inspect your alarms to make sure they work properly in your home or business.

1. Smoke kills more people then fire.

2. Different type alarms can be purchased at any of your big box stores. Example: Carbon Monoxide Detectors - Smoke Alarms - CO & Smoke Combination Alarms

3. A good rule is to change your battery in your alarms when the time change goes into effect.

4. Check your alarms several times throughout the year to make sure they are good working order. You can do this by pressing the bottom.

5. Be a nice neighbor and check with the elderly to make sure they have an alarm or if the one they have is in good working order.

6. Contact your local fire department to see if they have a program for free distribution and install programs.

Thinking ahead it is a good time to have your furnace or heating system serviced. Have your fireplace cleaned by a professional chimney sweet.

Don't put it off. You may not get a second chance.
