Westward Bound

Most Texans love Texas. We are more proud than the average American is about their homestate. Some see this as negative, others as positive. I'll leave that up to you to decide.

I know I said that my next post was going to talk about construction of office buildings, and how that is affecting the market in Austin. That was my intention, but a story caught my eye today that I wanted to post about.

The Census Bureau released a report this morning showing more and more people are moving to Texas. Of the top 10 fastest growing metropolitan areas in the country, Texas claimed four: DFW, Houston, Austin, and San Antonio (1, 4, 8, and 10 respectively). You can read the report from the Census Bureau here. To read the Associated Press article in the Houston Chronicle, click here.

Why are people moving here? It's simple: strong economies in each of these cities, cheaper housing than most of the country, and warmer weather.

So next time somebody talks about the weakening economy around the United States, point to Texas! While we aren't immune from an economic slowdown, we are in a better position than many states. This is why Texas has been fortunate enough to avoid some of the real estate slowdown plaguing agents across the country. Will it continue? Time will tell. I am fairly confident though that Texas will stay stronger longer, and rebound faster than the majority of the country.
