"Working Cowboys"

Have you seen T.W. Vanya's "Working Cowboys, Round-Up at the Diamond R" exhibit? If not, you've T.W. Vanya exhibitonly have until this Saturday, May 17, 2008. The exhibit is being held at the Benjamin Knox Art Center located at 405 University Drive East, College Station, TX.

Included in the exhibit are paintings and photograhs that are primarily from the 2007 spring round up at the Diamond R Ranch, which is headquartered in Anderson, Texas. Not all, but many of the pictures are of REAL working cowboys. Not just a bunch of good ole' boys that love the country life, have cows as a past time, but support themselves with a regular job. Not the type of cowboys that rodeo. No, these guys are the real deal. Working cowboys.

Upon reflection, I decided that some of my favorite pictures in the exhibit was a series on the type of boots a cowboy wears. Overall, real cowboys lead a very simple life style. But their boots and spurs seem to be the only real fashion statement that they make. Well, maybe the hat also. I was able to identify one of my friends in one of the pictures simply by his boots.

If you like Western Art, this exhibit is a must see. Some paintings and photographs are available for sale.
