The idea of "Green" hitting the RE world is a good thing. However, I'm a little amused at this "new" discovery. I've been building "Green" homes for the past 8 years.
"Green" is a very old concept. It is the principle which the native Americans lived by. They had to. They learned to live with what their environment provided. They lived in partnership with the earth.
Fast forward to today. NAR has introduced their new green agent program. What I'm a bit fuzzy on is how this designation helps existing home sales. Of all my clients that I've built homes for, NONE have put their properties up for sale. These are some of the most energy efficient and safe structures ever built and puts production building to shame. And that's the point. People who build these type homes are building for themselves and have no intention of moving out. They build them to live in them the rest of their lives. I had one woman that I met with on her property first point out where she wanted the house built and then she pointed out where she wanted to be buried!
So, back to my question. As a buyer looking for super efficient homes, do they look for a "green" agent or a green home? And if the market doesn't have green homes for sale, what difference does it make?
As a builder, broker and investor, my company has developed a program to address that issue. Its not agents that should be green, its the HOMES! By doing this, several objects are accomplished
If you have a home in the DFW region that you need to sell, talk to me. I'll get it moved to the top of the buyers' lists.
