I teach, therefore I reach.
It's that simple.
When my instructor packet arrived recently with the newly printed Winter-Spring 2009 Collin College Schedule of Continuing Education booklet inside, it dawned on me again. I am reaching well over 200,000 residents of Collin County Texas who are receiving their booklets with my Home Staging course in it, for free. The college sends this professionally printed course schedule out 3 times a year to all Collin County residents. How's that for marketing and it doesn't cost me a thing?
Then I see it on page 8 this time, that's right, my very own home staging course for anyone who is interested in learning the benefits of home staging and how staging a property for resale can help them achieve a faster sales time and top dollar. I can't help but get excited each time.
Does that mean that I'll have triple digit enrollment in my course? Not likely.
But it does mean that there are many people seeing this course and potentially wanting to take it or refer someone to it who may be interested.
It also means I know what I'm doing as a professional home stager and I can teach others too. Not to sound self-important but confident in my abilities as a professional home stager, I am an expert in the field and so are you in yours!
Last year, 2008, was the first time I became an instructor for Collin College's continuing education department.
I had an idea and there was no class offered for home staging. After speaking with the College and connecting to the right channels, I got together a proposal for the home staging CE course. It was
accepted!
It also was a trial and test for me and the potential to keep or cancel the class was laid before me. If the enrollment wasn't where it needed to be or the evaluations were poor, I could be almost guaranteed a cancellation of this course.
It was a bit daunting at first, but I do like a challenge and I absolutely LOVE what I do and sharing it with others is another passion of mine.
I'm not writing this to sell this course to you or anyone else.
The purpose of this blog is to encourage you to step out of your comfort zone and see if teaching is something you may want consider yourself.
Community Colleges and adult continuing education classes (at local high schools or community centers) are always looking for new course offerings, and Collin College is no exception. In fact, I was contacted recently by a new instructor who is going to be teaching a CE course on Feng Shui - I may just enroll in that one myself.
If you have a talent or skill and can write a proposal for your potential class it's something to consider to grow and develop not only professionally, but personally as well. I have met and made great friends, business associates and clients while teaching this course and that has been a wonderful side benefit that is priceless. I'm just here to tell you, YOU can also reach an audience of thousands if this is something that peaks your interest.
For those of you living in the Collin County area, these are just some dates to remember in case you're interested in pursuing this endeavor. I can also guide you to who you may contact should you like to consider this just drop me an email:
I'll be teaching reaching again in early February 2009.
Proudly teaching and reaching Collin County & North Texas Residents, Home Star Staging is here for you North Texas!
