A Legend is Honored as Texan of the Year

The well-known Dallas oil tycoon, Boon Pickens, was awarded 2009 Texan of the Year on Thursday night, which is no surprise to me. I blogged about the huge energy plan he laid out back in July of 2008. Pickens was recognized for coming up with an alternative energy plan that could change the world forever.

Boone Pickens was given the award Thursday night, March 19^th, during the 43^rd Annual Texas Legislative Conference. Many people are looking forward to Pickens' vision. It's exactly the type of innovation we need and Pickens is exactly the kind of leader the world needs overseeing it. Pickens' plan is to offset half the nation's foreign oil demand with wind energy and natural gas within the next 10 years. Currently, the US is importing nearly 70% of its oil from international enemies.

Pickens has been campaigning for alternative energy sources for many years. He has also contributed vast amounts of his own money into charitable causes in the state of Texas and around the country.

This awesome award is only given to those who contribute to the progression of Texas the most.

Many people are looking forward to Pickens' plan. Although the prices of oil are now down compared to July's extremely high prices, they will return if we don't do something now. And the more we are dependent on our own sources of energy, the cheaper things will continue to be for us all.
