Customer Service Issue, do you do this? If yes, you are in the wrong business..Debbie Aldrich 801-870-0606

Customer Service Story

How do you treat your clients or anyone you come into contact with? You never know who you meet that could become a client and make you money or close your business.

It doesn't really matter what line of business you are in most of us depend on consumers to make us a living one way or another. Lately I have become very frustrated with the customer service we have been getting whether at a restaurant or retail. It seems even though our economy is tough, jobs scarce, people either are burned out (aren't we all) or our society has become blind to the times and don't care.

Here is my latest story..besides restaurants jacking up prices and cutting back on food and not the best service either.( if they are filled go a head) yet fairly empty, wonder why? Hummmm

Ok, as promised

Precision Time...The other evening as my guy and I were heading home from a nice dinner with my daughter he realized his watched had stopped. I looked at the time and said we have time to go to the mall and get a new battery, so off we went. He is a Doctor and having a working watch is very important. We first stopped at Sears but their watch department was closed (closes at 5pm), we then went into the mall and found Precision Time.

Precision Time is a national chain! It was now 8:50 pm store closes at 9pm. We walk in and ask a young sales man if he can replace battery in watch...his response was "can you come back tomorrow , my back is hurting and I want to leave early.' 'We said 'well don't you close at 9?' ' your door is still open, and it will only take you 2 mins won't it?' The young man said, 'Yes, but I really want to go home.' We said, 'We don't want to have to come all the way back here in the morning and you still have 10 mins before closing.' He finally agreed and then lost screw to watch on the floor! Both me and my guy got down on our knees ( we both have had bad backs an surgery over the last 10 years) to help look for screw, we tried to be sympathetic to his bad back. The sales man starts to get angry and rude saying it is our fault for pressuring him when he wanted to leave. There wasn't anyone else at store, we asked for manager, manager cant be reached. The young man says it will take 2 weeks to get a new Timex screw in and it happens all the time. ( so maybe they should have a box of screws handy). We said 2 weeks! My guy says 'I am a Doctor I need to have my watch, can I buy one and return it, or is there a lender watch? ' The sales man says no we can't do either. So, I guess they don't have a back up plan nor do they guarantee their watches for 2 weeks. according to the this sales man. Hummmm!?@#

We said we need to speak to someone, that this is unacceptable. Impossible right? The sales man then tells my guy that he hopes to never be under his knife in surgery and starts to swear at us because he didn't get to leave early and he'll never do that again. Next day we call manager, another young woman who was no help..now we are waiting to hear back from corporate.

We suggested several options to the sales man to fix the screw mess that he lost, but he didn't want to bother trying to make it work or tell us he would talk to his manager to see what he could do to make it right. He was unapologetic, rude and said to 'bad you have to wait 2 weeks...'

And the beat goes on!!!!

So far no resolution and no watch!!!

I have been in some form of customer service my entire adult life and I have never seen such bad behavior as I've seen lately. How do people stay in business with this attitude? Where is the training for customer service industries?
