My chair and its relatives

Hey! I've got "new" wheels.

My chair is a reborn wonder from CReATE (Citizens Reutilizing Assistive Technology Equipment), a part of Utah State University (at 1595 W 500 S, Salt Lake City UT). Ken and Zachary made it happen. Their patience, dedication and plain hard work produced my miracle.

I am not one for naming gadgets and appliances (a business partner in Australia had his computers named "Curley, Moe and Larry" and by inference I was blamed for computer Larry's shortcomings). However in this case "Phoenix" comes to mind having seen where my wheels have come from, a farm of spares waiting to be reborn.

Each of the donated chairs at CReATE is a silent witness of service to a disabled person, who was just that much better off from its use. In many cases they have moved to newer versions of their appliances, in others they have passed on, and their chairs have been donated by family.

My previous chair was failing short of its expected life. Designed mostly for indoor, protected use, it had experienced the demands of a real estate agent working in extremes of climate in Utah. Wheels with worn tread, bearings collapsed and a blown charger as well as end of life for batteries were a few of its challenges.

Now Phoenix, resplendent with comfortable cloth seat, and new batteries has me at the Real Estate "starting gate" with everyone else - a real tribute to CReATE and its dedicated staff.
