Snowbird celebrates its' 37th annual Octoberfestevery weekend from noon to 6pm with German dancers, polka bands, crafts and of course great German food. Utah has a great heritage in European traditions with many of its' early settlers coming from Northern Europe. With Salt Lake City nestled in the beautiful copyright of property of Debbie AldrichMountains of the Wasatch reminiscent of the Mountains of Northern Europe it Utah attracted people from Germany, Switzerland, Norway and many other countries in Europe. Alta Ski resort, situated next to snowbird they are like sister resorts, you purchase an Alta/Snowbird pass and enjoy skiing both areas with a turnstile on the top of Baldy Mt. that connects both resorts.

Alta is one of the oldest ski areas in the U.S. The established in 1871 as an offshoot of the silver mining operations in Little Cottonwood Canyons. A fire destroyed most of the town in 1878, then a devastating avalanche in 1885. The decline of mining the town became dormant. In 1935 the U.S. Forest Service retained the noted skier Alf Engen to hike into the area and determine its potential as a future ski area. Engen's reported great promise for the area, thus entered the ski Industry of Utah.
