Old Town Alexandria Renovation Takes It Down to the Studs

I pass this Old Town Alexandria renovation - right at the corner of Rt. 1 South and Queen Street - at least 2-3 times a day and finally decided to stop and take some pictures.

Notice the second set of steps to the right of the door way. An addition was attached to the side of the house and used as a beauty parlor.

Front door entrance way

The house was boarded up for a long time, the overgrown "back yard" visible through a rotting fence.

The new owner/developer has literally taken it down to the studs and is pushing out the back wall to add a light filled (notice the large windows) addition.

I couldn't find anyone on site to fill in the story line but will keep going back till we do. What I do know is that the developer paid $330,000 for the property in January and is putting a minimum of $150,000 into it. Any guesses what the new asking price will be?

It will also be interesting to see how they market this project. Is the location really considered Old Town Alexandria or does it fall in the newly designated historic neighborhood of Parker Gray? There is no off street parking and Rt. 1 is a major north/south thoroughfare for communters and local travel alike.

We'll be back in a few months with more pictures.
