Recently I had a homeowner ask me if finishing the basement and adding square footage to their home would increase the value of their home. I loved their forward thinking. Durning a time when folks are losing value in their homes this homeowner is trying to figure out what he can do to counter that problem. With a little investment he could make a difference. Please take the time and watch the video.

Nannette, Did you write everything out or did you just talk about the subject as it comes to you? I think the finishing of an entire basement would be too costly to to recoup, but it might make their house sell faster? I just had a seller put an entire kitchen in his house to sell it. It worked, he didn't get dollar for dollar, but he got his house sold.
Finishing the basement can be challenging. Make sure none of the safety mechanisms in the basement get compromised with finishing. Clearances from water heaters and furnaces, adequate combustion air for water heaters and furnaces. Access to the water main, sewer cleanout, and electric panel.
Good luck the the video Nannette. I think the finished basement would add to enjoyment and could be a great marketing point but in my area if it is below grade it can not be counted as sq ft.
Well, this looks like a good way to get people to hear your message, with Video. Interesting to me to see what makes a Home in Lynchberg Virginia sell.
Thanks everyone for your feedback. Provided that the homeowner can do some of the work themselves I have a few pointers that could keep costs way down. Purchase the flooring at a wholesaler for instance. I think if you are frugal you could get your money back in the sale.
Nannette - I like what you're doing with the videos. That's next on my list! Hope the phone is ringing off the hook in Lynchburg!
I have a different issue with a builder. I have 2 of his homes listed he did not listen to the advice he was given and the homes were build on slabs. So we have no basement to finish. I guess we are in a world of the unknown. Finish basement? Build a Basement?
