Last night we had dinner with one of our old neighbors in Ashburn, VA. It has been eight years since our move to the Waterford area. The lifestyles are so different and I do love them both.
My heart aches for the closeness we shared when we lived on Brownstone Court. Of course, it was our first real home. We looked across our backyard to our neighbors and many times ask them to walk on over and join us for a glass of wine or a cup of coffee after our family dinner was over. We would sit outside chatting about our week for a few hours and then we would simply walk back to our respective homes. Even though we were on about 1/3 of an acre, our property seemed much larger. Our backyards were deep and filled with large maple and pine trees. None of the three properties that bordered ours had a fence which made each of our lots feel bigger and friendlier.
Our 3 acres in western Loudoun and our much larger home does allow us privacy, room for a pool, dark nights and star gazing, and the ability to hear the songs and sounds of birds and other wildlife more easily. It gives me a sense of peace and solitude.
Anyway, the differences I will save for another blog. This one is on FOOD. We had such a wonderful meal, most of it coming from Wegmans. If you are moving to the area, you must go to Wegmans and experience the difference. There is no other grocery store quite like this one. Draeger's in San Mateo, California is maybe one the might surpass Wegmans, but then it is in California! Both are an epicurean adventure.
Beth was able to have her appetizers, entree, and almost her entire meal ready in no time because of this grocery store. The kabobs were outstanding having been marinated in their special sauce for hours. The appetizers came from Wegmans unique olive bar and cheese shop. And dessert was just the perfect end to a great evening.
What Wegmans can offer is the ability to help a busy mom or dad prepare fresh, easy gourmet meals in minutes. Their chefs give demonstrations on how to cook special dishes; all the ingrediants needed can be found near by (what great marketing)! I know you are thinking Costco has that, but this store is upscale and distinctive. Your dinners will be unforgotten by not only guests, but your kids, too.
You can find it all here: great flowers for decorating, great food to prepare and eat, fantastic wine, and fantastic recipes and tricks from thier helpful chefs. The bread is unbelievable, too.
Oh, by the way, Wegman's soon will be coming to Leesburg. I can't wait
