Dunbarton: It's All About Being an ACTIVE Adult

When buyers who have hit the 55 milestone, or are approaching it, hear about Active Adult Communities, their mind goes to depressing retirement community. I can assure that Dunbarton in Bristow, VA is opposite what that image conjures up.

The community is a mix of duplexes and single family homes...all with main level Master Suites with basic cable and Internet included in the HOA dues. Home sizes vary, but not nearly as much as the variety in the activities in which you can partake as a Dunbarton resident. The center of attention is the Dunbarton Clubhouse. It sits overlooking the community in front and Broad Run in the back. Even in winter, there are some gorgeous views from the clubhouse deck.

The Clubhouse is not ostentious. It's simple in its elegance and what it offers. There is a ballroom/party room to the right as you enter. My Aunt (a Dunbarton resident) was kind enough to rent it for my wedding reception. It was great. The caterers loved the fact that the Clubhouse has it's own gourmet kitchen.

The gathering area has lovely furniture around a fireplace that invities you to "sit a spell" and relax or chat with your neighbors. There's always a jigsaw puzzle going in this area as well.

On the main level there is also library which also offers a dual computer workstation. Down the hall, a billiards room with tables suitable for card games or just visiting with your neighbors.

Downstairs is an indoor pool that you can enjoy year round. And there's even an exercise room if swimming isn't your thing and you prefer a treadmill or some weight training.

In warmer months, there are tennis courts and a putting green just outside the Clubhouse. Or maybe you just want to relax and take in that view of Broad Run from the Clubhouse deck.

A move to Dunbarton will definitely not have your social calendar at a loss. This community loves it's activities and invites you to partake in whichever ones you like. There are groups for bingo, cards, sewing/quilting, Bible study, mahjong...the list goes on. And the activities aren't limiited to the Dunbarton confines. Sometimes they put together travel activities like a day in Atlantic City, a trip to see a play or even a monthly Dine Around.
