Good thing this dryer vents into the attic, cause it sure can't vent outdoors!

Combine a makeshift laundry room, with a holey (not holy) dryer vent, and the most interesting, but clogged, discharge outdoors I have ever seen and what do you have?

Well, for one thing, you have a lot of mold!

Interestingly, most of the mold was not near the dryer vent!

Most of the exhaust was blowing so much toward one end of the house, the end where the homeowner covered up that pesky vent hole on the side of the house, that the mold really developed there! It was obvious that all that fresh, cool air getting into the attic space needed to be discontinued, in favor of warmer air from the dryer!

But there was enough exhaust blowing upward that the mold was happy here near the vent tubing too.

And it's a good thing.

No way could any air from the dryer get outside!

Cute, cute, cute!

It looks like a little alien hopping around on the roof!

That convenient grill works very well at blocking lint so that no exhaust can get out.

You can see there are two layers of shingles, and this roof collar was just nailed and glued on top with what I call goop! (yes, same house...)

To get that gentle curve on the metal tubing, the homeowner actually cut off pieces and taped the sections together!

This guy was good!

I hope it doesn't snow too deep!

Well, no matter if it does. There is all that attic space to hold the exhausting air.

My recommendation: if you see what looks like a makeshift laundry room, jammed into a linen closet, you can bet that everything else will be makeshift too! And you can COUNT on problems all along the way!
