If you had not wanted to put CFL's in your new homes because they wouldn't fit anywhere, don't worry. They come in every shape, style and wattage that you could possibly imagine. They even have the little yellow bug light. I have not thought of those in years. I am working on my builder at Westchester Estates in Chesapeake, Va to put the bulbs everywhere. Yes they are expensive but we could advertise as have a somewhat "green" house. Every bit helps nowadays.
Here is a great website for CFL bulbs. Check it out.
I borrowed this from my husband because I thought it was important.
"Here is another wrinkle in my life. Now I have to make decisions when I buy Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFL)other then just the wattage. Don't like the light that comes from the bulb because you think it reminds you of a lab? Make sure you are buying the Kelvin range. What in the world is that? It is the temperature of color and that range gives you a more yellow cast then the typical blue. Who knew?
Don't like how dark the CFL's are? Wait a minute and they will get brighter. Many take a while to get to full brightness. They may not be a good idea for stairways or for security lighting with motion dectectors. Need to get rid of bugs? Yep, they got the yellow bug light also.
Did you know that CFL's now come as globes and flame tips. Now we can have dinner by CFL. What a great way to a romantic dinner.
One more thing. It seems that brand does matter here. It seems that some brands like Feit Ecobulb fails much earlier then other bulbs but still outlasts regular bulbs by quite a bit.
I use a lot of CFL bulbs in my house, mostly the 100 watt varity, and the last wrinkle if finding out how to dispose of them. Can't throw them away because they have mercury. Some places charge a dollar a bulb to dispose of them. I have been looking at the city of Virginia Beachs' website to find out how to dispose of them but no luck yet. If the house your buyer is purchasing has CFL's, you might want to find out how the city disposes of them and let them know."
