Great photos, Lenn. I owned a house once where the garage had been converted into an old-fashioned cowboy saloon, complete with tractor seats on the bar stools, big stone fireplace and a "girlfriend" living in the attic with her own red light shining through ("girlfriend" was really a mannequin's leg coming out of frilly pettycoats). It was alot of fun. That ended up being our family room for years. It's interesting to see what some people come up with for decorations.
Lenn - Very nice photographs and thanks for sharing, looks like a very nice property!
Vegas Bob
Lenn, I have never seen this side of you. Your last 2 photo blogs have been a nice change of pace. Very cool...
Lenn, I believe that bamboo is supposed to bring good luck according to Feng Shui if I am not mistaken.
We also enjoy unique item in our yard. They are certainly conversation starters. Thanks for the photos.
Lenn - I love yard ornaments. We have a number of pieces of yard art such as big iron stars on our wood fence, metal lizards covering cable wires and box on the back of the house, and ceramic screaming gargoyle-esque heads on our garage wall. Just adds to the feel of the yard. In some cases, they have utility or a purpose such as breaking up a fence line or covering wires. Sometimes - it is just a personal statement - a bit of whimsey.
Lenn- I love the red Chinese wheelbarrow. Very nice and vibrant colors to go with the vivid green.
I love the wheelbarrow! Ellen and I were in Northern Virginia this past weekend and the weather was just fantastic! I really enjoy that area there is so much natural beauty.
Lenn, I, too, love these photos by you. Thanks for sharing such simple beauty and making suggestions for these yard ornaments.
Lenn - My wife & I went out and dug up some wild cattails last year and planted them in our rock garden. They look really great! Pretty simple and cheap way to add some interesting twists to the landscaping.
Kent. Adding items of whimsy to landscaping is doesn't have to be expensive. The rock formations in my yard came from my lot. When digging a bulb garden, we hit a vein of rock and just kept digging. My landscaper loves the rock formations because it makes him feel "artistic".
Margaret. They are simple aren't they, and beautiful.
Jim. The wheelbarrow came from a Chinese antique shop where I purchased a few pieces of unique furniture. I saw it in their yard and had to have it. I painted it Chinese red just for color. Love it.
Katerina. Thanks. I love it too. I painted in Chinese red so no one would miss it. When the daffodils in that bulb garden blossom,. . . . .
Ryan. Post some photos. I love to look at whimsical yard declorations.
Terry. Post some photos. I love to look at shimsical yard decorations.
Heather. I didn't know that. I have two bunches of banbo in my yard. One group disguises the well head.
Paul. HA! I have many "sides". You'd be surprised. Of course, when one lives long enough, one can develop many sides.
Robert. My pleasure. Glad you stopped by.
Heather. Now THAT sounds like fun. I believe that there is so much we can do with whimsical decoration to help folks enjoy their homes.
Great pics and an even better point to be made here. Any one driving up to a home with great landscaping and personal touches will be in a much more receptive mood to making an offer.
Gabe. I agree. Unless the yard is deemed to much work to maintain, buyers love nice landscaping. I always, always comment on "nice landscaping".
Appraisers, from my experience give value to nice landscaping.
My yard, other than cutting the grass in the back is largely maintenance free. Not much maintenance to rocks.
I think the wheel barrow looks great and I love the color red on it!
Jim. HA! Chinese red just seemed like a good color for a decorative Chinese wheelbarrow.
I too like the wheel barrow. I looked and looked. I'm always trying figure out how things are built and what was the original intended use.
Lenn, I love the way people can take something simple and create something beautiful with it. A talent I wich I had :)
Lenn -- I agree with others who love the wheelbarrow --- I love all of the photos and you are so right -- one can make a dull property look good with the right touch. Thanks for sharing.
I like unique things like these to spice up the yard! They look great. BTW - I put Talat & Nadia's place under agreement today - yippee:)
Bill. Yippee!!!
They coming down on the 4th weekend. That's really good news. The place that I believe is the very best buy and offers the best homes in terms of features and eveythings has only 3 lots left.
Hi Lenn....I have a book called Garden Junk, and it's full of ideas on how to turn seemingly throw-away stuff into interesting garden art. Good stuff, I love garden whimsy :-)
Liz. That wheel barrow is a hit. I love it. It say in my garage for 2 years waiting to be painted to put out. I finally got to painting it a few weeks ago. I should have done it long ago.
George. You'd be surprised what you can do. Just go for it. If you like a unique piece, that's all that matters.
Mark. It has very old rope holding some of it together. The rest of it is held together with dowels.
Gail. Me too. I love the unusual decorating idea in landscaping. Thanks.
GOOD MORNING LENN! Color does wonders for anything -- especially in Arizona where it's so dry and everything is brown. The locals tend to have colorful ironworks in shapes of sunflowers, or animals and even cactus to decorate their yards. Red is among the favorite colors but I have also seen a array of beautiful mixtures such as plums, with muted yellows and bright greens! --Gabrielle
Gabrielle. Agree. Color is very important and I need some in my family room.
