IT CAME THROUGH ABOUT 2:00 P.M. TODAY, THURSDAY, AUGUST 7, 2008.
Good grief! I thought the hail was going to shatter the windows. This was the worst hail storm I've ever witnessed. It lasted about 10 minutes, then the wind died down, the sun came out and it was a beautiful August afternoon again.
It was 92 degrees. The wind was about 30 mph. The sky dumped 1/2 inch hail on everything.

Beach front property in Lovettsville, VA?
Oh my...looks like winter, glad you grabbed your camera.
Lenn, amazing this happened when it was 92 outside. There must have been some huge thunder clouds. AJ
Virginia. It really looked like snow.
Missy. Indeed. That camera goes where I go.
AJ. We get quick storms like that in the summer. The sky darkens and opens up with very heavy rain and winds. Rarely see hail. I've never seen hail like this.
Wow! We were driving from Winchester towards Charles Town on Rt. 7 this afternoon, about 2pm, enjoying blue skies and fluffy clouds. Who knew the seasons were changing so quickly just a few miles away? Ha! Thanks for the awesome photos!
Lenn- I think this is one of the most amazing things to see, hail on a hot summer day. Great photos!
Amy. Thanks. You were so close. I was really surprised. In fact, it's thundering now and raining. Who know what's coming.
Katerina. I was really surprised. Glad I was able to get photos.
Lenn, it was 92 degrees and you got hail? How very strange. It's almost like a hot fudge sunday!
Later in the rain~Deb
Deb. Thanks. Most hail storms I've seen have been on hot days. This was a very intense storm.
Lenn - it looks like you live in a gorgeous area - looks nice and private and very lush vegetation. Yeah, I know you were talking about the freak hail storm but I was enjoying your front yard :)
Thanks Christina. It's a nice area and we've had so much rain this year, everything is lush.
Lenn I have only been in one hail storm like that in my life and it was in May of 2003 about 100 miles north of Memphis TN. I thought the hail was going to break the windshield of my car.
We just had a brutal storm this past monday evening. It came out of nowhere like yours...I bet you ours move to yours. Microburst Rips through Home and Saint Charles....PRICELESS!!!!!
Hey! What are you posting for? I thought you were still under that bus?
Rich. It's Localism that threw me under the bus. ActiveRain still works.
George. I've been in two severe hail storms while in my vehicle. Not fun.
Larry. I suspect that the Microburst in Ill. was more fierce than the hail storm in VA. But, they are all fierce.
Lenn,
We got that crazy thunderstorm around 6pm, it was so weird: bright sunshine, pouring down rain, temp dropped about 10 degrees. In the space of about 2 miles, we drove in and out of the storm about 5 times! But boy is it gorgeous in Charles Town today!
Amy. You're close but not that close. I suspect that it was a different storm. I looked out about %6:00 last evening and there were some wicked looking clouds up there.
