You can walk up Carters Mountain to visit Monticello! Sure it is about 2 miles (each way) but my family and I did it this weekend and it was wonderful!
This well built trail has wide gravel and many areas are winding boardwalks! My son and I even raced a couple of times during our outing.
There are several places to stop along the way and just enjoy the view!
What a great way to spend the day in Charlottesville! Sure it was 300 feet up (from start to finish) but what fun we had together!
This is truely a grand entrance to Jeffersons Home.
This will be enjoyed for many years to come!

As always, beautiful pictures! A friend of mine is visiting Monticello next week and those pictures makes me jealous of her... and you!
I hope you had a wonderful weekend with your family!
You guys are so lucky with all the history and beauty at ytour back door!

Charles, great photos. Taking a drive down to Monticello has been on my list since I read John Adams.
Charles, that is an awesome photo of the bridge with the trees. Tremendous natural beauty.
Charles, the distance of the walk is never an issue if the prize is worth it. Just ask all the people that go to Walt Disney of 6 flags.
Hi Charles...If anyone was undecided about walking the trail, they wouldn't hesitate after seeing your photos.
Is that your daughter?
Kate
Hi Charles,
Really nice pictures. I will think about stopping on one of my trips south. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Charles as I ahve told you many times in the past you are working in such a beautiful area!
Wow! Good to know. I was planning a trip to Monticello this summer. Might just do this if I don't bring my elderly Mom. Sounds great.
Charles, you work in such an historically rich area. I have commented before on how beautiful it is up there, but the history is just as incredible. I have been thinking about this for my area here lately, and visited a local Veterans Memorial. Some men were up there talking about the past and history. I was lucky to be there and lucky to meet them.
What a wonderful part of our country to live in! If it wasn't for the winter months, I might even consider moving...............
My husband and I would like to walk this trail when we're in c'ville this wekend (12/12-12/14/08). Can anyon etell us where the trail head is?
Thank you,
Leslie Terry
Leslie - Go to the visitor center below Monticello. There is parking at the base of the hill.
Have a great time!
