On my last full day in Washington DC my son and his friends took me to Mount Vernon, home of our first President, George Washington. The last time I visited Mount Vernon I was around 8 years old and in my child's memory, the main house was enormous. What a surprise to see it again as an adult and discover that it really isn't that large after all!
We had a wonderful time on that Sunday afternoon, walking through the main house and gardens. We also visited the final resting place of George and Martha, a site I remembered from my last visit there.
The views from the back of the main house of the Potomic River and the surrounding countryside were fantastic! It was a wonderful day and I was in the best company possible!
All too soon, the day was coming to a close, but we did have a great time!
And this satisfied my desire to return to a place that held fond memories of a trip with my parents so many years ago!
This is one location I think every American should visit at some time during their life! I was glad to be there again!
