During a recent brokers open house I took the opportunity to ask the agents what the seller of my Norfolk VA home for sale should do about the color of the paint in the living room. Though almost all agreed that the color scheme was not offensive, they also suggested it could be a deterrent for a potential buyer. Many buyers do not want to go into a property knowing they need to tackle a large project such as removing wallpaper. Here is the original color scheme.
The seller chose a neutral tone for the living room. What a difference! The room looks and feels much larger, less cavernous. See the property for sale in Norfolk VA area of Hampton Roads at http://www.1603stdenis.info or http://www.1603stdenis.com. So, to all of the agents out there that have a house that hasn't sold.... take another look around the property... A small inexpensive change could make a big difference!

This living room is just one of the many fine rooms in this 3200 square foot home with updated kitchen, gorgeous sunroom, large yard, 2 car garage, full basement and more! See it today!

The after photos show what a change some paint will make. Many buyers do not have the "eye" to envision this change so doing it just makes sense/cents. :)
Bethany - that is a great transformation! Completely different feel for the room. Pretty cool that just a gallon of paint can do that.
Looks really nice, I almost would say they should also paint that door!
make it look larger! I like the green but they made a wise choice.
Toning it down and neutralizing always the right advice. But sometimes that splash of bright color, or dark rich tones if there is enough sun and windows to fill the room with light can be so dramatically different. Play it safe, or be daring and different. That's why we don't drive black model T's anymore and Hummers come in many colors to make your personal statement. Nice comparison shots.
Bethany,
That's a pretty dramatic change for a small investment.

Good post and a good example to use with sellers.

It's amazing how paint color can COMPLETELY change the look of a room. Well done!
Thanks for the comments everyone! The sellers are really pleased and cant believe they waited so long to paint the room! I wonder about that door too... All the doors in the house are stained rather than painted...
Bethany - A very dramatic re-do. Many agents and clients think preparing a house for sale will cost thousands of dollars , many times it is the simple fixes that make the biggest change.
That's a great before and after. Neutral is usually the best way to go.
Nice transformation.
I think that even the paint color makes a world of difference in the room! Great post!
