Do your clients ask about aircraft noise? Here's a cool tool ... if you're in Northern Virginia :-)

Living within 10 miles of a major airport has its advantages ... unless you're one of those people who hate aircraft noise. Fortunately, it doesn't bother me, but I've had a number of buyer clients who've expressed concern. There's only one way to know for sure and that's to spend a week in the neighborhood ... different days, different times ... to experience the noise firsthand. Of course, the weather and wind direction can affect the traffic patterns as well. I found a great tool for clients who want to know more about air traffic in a particular area.

Disclaimer: this web site covers only a handful of airports so it may not be useful for everyone. But if you're in the Northern Virginia area, it's great!

Go to https://secure.airscene.com/public and select an airport from the drop-down list, then click on the Flight Tracking tab.

It may take a minute or two for the flight data to appear on the map, so be patient. (I usually right-click on the map and select Play - seems to wake it up.) When you hover your mouse over one of the aircraft icons, the map shows the flight number, origin & destination, and altitude of arriving and departing flights. It also shows the altitude of flights in transit over the area. You can enter a street address to zoom in on a particular neighborhood and choose playback of traffic on specific dates and times.
