I recently had a client who could not seem to get the upstairs of their house cool when in years past it had no problem with cooling the home. I questioned them about whether or not they were sure it used to be cool and they assured me that it had never had a problem with cooling.
We checked the vents to make sure none of them had become disconnected or crushed. We checked the outside condenser unit and it was in good shape and clean. I suggested that they have a HVAC person come check the unit but due to finances they decided to hold off and wait and see.
Yesterday I received a phone call from the client saying that there was water on the floor around the inside air handler. I went over to the home and the light bulb came on! How could I have been such an idiot?!?!?! How about checking that filter? The filter above it the ACTUAL filter from the home! I am surprised there was any cold air at all this year!
So, just a gentle reminder, change those filters every month for peak performance!
