Darn! I wish I had my camera. Today, driving down the Clara Barton Parkway near Glen Echo, MD, I spotted what looked like no less than 20, and possibly as many as 30, vultures having an early Thanksgiving Dinner on the side of the road. The poor animal, probably a deer, likely didn't know what hit him. Hopefully, it was quick and painless.
For most humans, except one dude in England I saw on The History Channel the other night, eating roadkill is disgusting (It's apparently illegal in most states with West Virginia being legal). To these vultures, this was a feast! They didn't realize it but the agencies responsible for cleaning up the highways are watching their budgets. There seems to be a lot more roadkill on the side of the road these days and it's getting cleaned up by nature. I drove by two chowing down on something on the Capital Beltway one afternoon with cars whizzing by at 60+ MPH (Speed Limit is 55). Perhaps when things are better, we should enlist the "Vulture Brigade" to clean up the highways and save the taxpayers money. Just a thought and somewhat in jest. I wish I had my camera. It was a sight to see.
