Chickahominy River is Gorgeous But Don't Tell Anybody..........

we people who have the pleasure of living here want to keep it as uncrowded as we can!

The Chickahominy is a river in the eastern portion of the U.S. state of Virginia. The river rises about 20 miles (32 km) northwest of Richmond, Virginia and flows southeast and south to the James River. The river was named after the Chickahominy Indian tribe who lived near the river when it was claimed by English colonists in 1607. The lower Chickahominy River has become a major source of drinking water for the lower portion of the Virginia Peninsula and a popular recreational area for boating and sport fishing, featuring Walker's Dam and Chickahominy Lake. Fishing is a popular sport along the Chickahominy, both above and below Walker's Dam. Among the most populated are blue catfish, largemouth bass, river herring, striped bass, shad, and yellow perch.

We are blessed to have 2 Marinas on the River - 1 is Colonial Harbor Marina - their website is http://www.colonialharbor.com/ and they have Gasoline, Boat Repair, Slips and of course a delicious place to eat! You can sit outside and watch boats pull up or stay inside to keep cool! The Cheesburger is delicious!

Another Great Marina is River's Rest on the Charles City side of the River. You can visit their web site at http://www.riversrest.com/. They have a great hotel with a pool, Marina Slips for monthly or overnight rental, Blue Heron Restaurant where you can sit on the gorgeous balcony and overlook the river and gasoline! Charlie will even pick you up in the Water Taxi if you live on the water nearby!

Now that Spring is here you can see so much wildlife on the Chickahominy River! Boating season is coming and eveyone is getting antsy! People are de winterizing their boats and trying to get ready for bathing suit season! YIKES! Until it gets warmer I just enjoy watching the Blue Herons and hearing the fishermen zoom by!

Summer is coming and I can't wait!
