DOES LOCALISM INTIMIDATE YOU?

This is really a strange situation for me. There are not many things that truly intimidate me. How could something as simple as posting on a site do that? I really cannot figure it out. I have read, in fact printed out, how to post to Localism. I have read posts there. I think I understand the concept but I do not want to do something wrong.

Living at Lake Anna certainly provides me with plenty of material...at least loads of photos. Having lived many, many places this is the spot for me. Working in real estate at a lake is a pleasure. Living here is an even bigger one.

House at Lake Anna

One of these days there will be a post about Lake Anna, Virginia on Localism. Oh boy, it better be mine.

In the meantime, here are some photos of a place that means so much to me.

This one was taken across a very wide cove while babysitting a listing as the roofer did some needed repairs. Every time I'm out somewhere I look around and find another opportunity to put my camera to work. I had fun that day even taking photos of the roofer up on the top of a 12/12 pitch roof. At least I tried taking some pictures. It was a little difficult as I'm afraid of heights and he was making me very nervous.

Across the Cove

I could take pictures all day long especially when we are having a fall like the one this year. What a pleasure.

Kathleen, those are AWESOME pictures!  Thanks so much for sharing!

OK, I am leaving the west coast and moving to your town!!!!

 Localize this info for all!!!!

Take care!

RJH

Kathleen - you have some great post that would suit localism fine!  I love the fall photos one.  I find it easier to write for localism than for my peers on AR.  If you are just wanting some help in "prettifying" your post - please join us at the Practice Here Group for some help.  You are well on your way and should not let it intimidate you!

Mary...Glad you enjoyed the pictures.  It's so great to have a place where I can share them. Thanks for your comment.

Robert...Don't be too hasty.  Before you know it, things will look very different here although I always think it is beautiful.  I'm going to check to see where you are on the west coast.  There are so many wonderful places there.

Gorgeous pictures and do not be intimidated by localism!  It is a great site and has so much to offer.  Think of posting as doing it as something for potential clients, not to impress anyone else :)

Michelle...AR is a virtual gold mine.  It seems that there is a group for everyting and for everyone.  Thank you for the suggestion.  I will certainly check out the Practice Here Group.  What's one more group?

Renee...Thanks for sharing that with me.  Who doesn't need potential clients (to turn into real clients) these days?

Kathleen

Katheleen,

These are beautiful photos of your area.....I love Localism now that I learned to use it.....you will do great.

Julie...Thanks for the encouragement.  I'm going to check out more of the posts (including yours) on Localism.  I'm pleased you like the photos.  It is a little hard at first to post them because I have seen some real beauties on AR but what the heck.

Kathleen

Kathleen, These pictures are beautiful!  What a great place to live.  Keep up the pictures and post some to localism.

Those are some beautiful fall colors, Kathleen. It's just the kind of content to share in Localism to show what's special about your area. Think of a Localism post as a note to a friend telling them all about your city - its neighborhoods, climate, recreation, parks, arts and culture - all of the great things about living there. And don't forget you can post photos as well, and when writing the captions think of it a a mini blog.

WOW - How nice to live amongst all that beauty!  This post definitely is Localism worthy!

John...You have sure given me some very good tips.  I'm going to get to work on some material for Localism.  Would you explain what you mean by writing the captions?  Do you mean I should write something near the pictures that describes them?

Nancy...You are very encouraging.  You must be surrounded by beautiful scenery down there in Georgia.  Thanks complimenting Lake Anna!

Robert...I'm glad you enjoyed the pictures.  I'm going to check you out on Localism.

Kathleen, Your photos are amazing.  Love the changing of the colors on the trees. In Texas we do not have that.  You live in a beautiful place.

Kay...I spent some time in Texas, a few months in Baytown and than about a year and a half in Houston.  We left there to move to Rome, Italy so I didn't shed too many tears (about zero).

It's been fun sharing my photos on AR.  I've been taking them for years and the only ones that ever saw them were family members.  I'm enjoying and glad that you like the pictures.

Kathleen

Kathleen- If you love something such as you love Lake Anna, the words will flow.  Use the pictures to create a feeling within yourself and go with it.  Share with the world why it means so much to you.  Don't be intimidated. You have a lot to contibute! Localism is where we will find business- get after it!!  (How is your eye doing??  Still posting I see....??)

Kathleen--

Great photos!  I am originally from Virginia and it has been years since I visited Lake Anna.  It bring back memories.  I can't wait to check out your post on Localism.

www.gmacpn.com/shagee

OK, now you are making me want to take a drive out to Lake Anne! Good job!!!

Kathleen,

Localism is the best place to post and advertise our cities. Congratulations, incredible picutres!!

Use localism to your advantage...it's easy and it works if you use it right!

(11/14/07 07:38AM) — Al Maxwell - Real Estate Agent -

Try localism...you can always edit your entry if there's a mistake.

Hello Kathleen - with those gorgeous pictures I hope you posted this to Localism.  Then download the picture separately.  Good Luck!

We need a group called "Living at the Lake". We have a house on a lake here in California and I love being there. Life is just different at the Lake. Better!

(11/14/07 08:25AM) — Drew Riley

Working on a lake is very enjoyable, and likewise produces great photo ops....Lake life is where its at!

Kim...How exciting.  I went to sleep (finally) and when I finally got back on the computer I found lots of comments...all encouraging me to try Localism.  Thanks for asking about my eye.  Yes, I'm doing pretty good.  It's just trying to see from one eye.  Tomorrow I get  another "new" eye and will then be set to go.

Demetria...I'm glad it stirred up some memories.  I started coming here in 1988 and moved here in 1992.  It as changed as far as more homes (and as you can see from the top photo some are pretty impressive) but it still has that wonderful rural feel.  Come back!

Steven...I love it when someone says they have spent time here at Lake Anna.  Then they truly understand my love for it.  Thanks for letting me know it is a place you are fond of also.

Charles...Every day I wake up and see how beautiful the leaves are I think this has to be the last day we'll see them.  Well, just like you we're seeing more and more on the ground.  Hurry, hurry, hurry!

Kathleen - In the future be sure to tag your images with descriptions of the area. Google will love those tags and it will help Localism visitors know where the photos were taken. This way when site visitors "mouse-over" the pictures, they will learn more about the area! Great post....Here's wishing you the best in your future Localism post endeavors!

Here is an example:

Maria...So happy you enjoyed the pictures and thanks for the encouragement.

Neal...I will give it a try.  Plus I'm interested in reading about other places.  If I need help with my posts I know there will be plenty who will lend a helping hand until I get it right.

Al...Yes, that's such a wonderful feature.  Edit. Edit. Edit.  Love that click.

Ed...Is it OK to repost this on Localism?  I'm not sure of the guideline on that.

Kathleen

Oh Janet...You are a woman after my own heart.  Let's think about that.  There is somethin special (for some of us) about lakes.  Actually, for me it's almost any body of water.

Drew...You have the same feeling I do...I many others.  I guess we're Lake Addicts.

Kathleen

Kathleen-More beautiful pictures.  I'm drawn to your posts because you share so much beauty.  I'm glad you share your passion for photography with us.

Bobby...Another learning experience for me. Thanks so much.  And thank you for the great photo you selected.  If this is an example of what I'm going to find on Localism, I won't be able to get away from it.

Kathleen

Kathleen:  Those pictures could be of Lake Norman!  I guess I shouldn't be surprised since we aren't that far away.  Please, post to Localism.  For that matter, start your own blog.  It is so much fun sharing what you love about your community and reaching out to them to teach them about real estate.  I just love my blog.  You are a great writer...now go for it!

Diane...I cannot believe I have never been to Lake Norman.  It really isn't that far away.  I'm going to check out your blog as I really want to see some great photos of YOUR lake.  This is great, getting to know a fellow REALTOR there.  Every once in a while I have someone that wants to check out Lake Norman.  Guess who I will suggest.

Kathleen

There should be nothing intimidating about posting to localism.  Just talk about what you know and like about your area.  You'll be fine...

I just dropped back by to say - Congratulations - on your featured post!

(11/14/07 09:43AM) — Linda Scanlan

Kathleen, Wow! What awesome pictures! You should have no trouble with Localism. It looks like you're off to a great start! Congrats on the feature!

Hi Kathleen - I put most of my posts into localism.  Most of what I write is about my area.

To write for localism, you could pretty much use most of what you wrote in this post, take out the first paragraph, and there you have a nice post for localism.  Just write about what you love about your area, write about the things folks who inquire about your area ask you about.  Your pictures in this post are very pretty.  You do a post on the lakes or rivers in your area, the scenery, the foliage, anything you can think of pretty much would work for a post.

Ask yourself what others might like to know about your area, and then tell the world about it in your posts.  And use your beautiful pictures - pictures add a lot to a post, especially if they help to tell the story.

If I can help, just let me know.  I'm happy to help!  And have fun with your posts - if they're not fun, you won't want to do them.
Ann

Lane...As you can tell, I love talking about Lake Anna and taking pictures.  Thank you.

Michelle...Oh, my gosh.  I didn't know.  Thanks for the NEWS!

Linda...It's been great receiving such positive comments about my pictures.  And thanks for sharing the NEWS with me.  I didn't even realize it had happened.

(11/14/07 09:52AM) — Ryan Haddock

Only thing you are doing on Localism is advertising yourself, likely you alredy do that everday when you meet people.  Oh, and the best part about Localism is that it works.

Ann...The suggestions I'm receiving are unbelievable.  Thank you so much for the encouragement and for taking so much time to help me.  It's been absolutely wonderful.

Kathleen

Ryan...That sounds like it's the icing on the cake.  Isn't it great that you can do something you enjoy and reap monetary rewards also!

Kathleen

This post is great - the pictures definately inspire me to pack my bags.

More important the responses make me itch to create something so beautiful about my home town of Bethel, CT!

Robin...You live in a beautiful spot.  I am from Connecticut.  I have relatives in Stratford, Huntington, Trumbull, Wallingford, Naugatuck, Milford, etc.  There are so many beautiful spots in Connecticut.  You will have loads of material.  I've been to Bethel and it is lovely.

Kathleen -- What a lovely place to live. . .sharing that beauty and your enthusiasm for it is what localism is all about!

(11/14/07 11:50AM) — Debbie Summers

Kathleen - You have the makings of a perfect localism post!

(11/14/07 12:59PM) — Tracy Saunders

I can so relate to your post... I live in the most incredible place Lake Tahoe and I feel like I am the lukiest person alive.  I get to help people find that perfect first or second home in a place that is breathtaking.  I was having professional photos taken of one of my listings two days ago and the photographer and I had to stop to take some sunsent photos at the lake.

I too am still a little lost when it comes to this whole localism thing.

(11/14/07 01:19PM) — Debbie VanLeuvan

Kathleen,

Wonderful photo's!!!!  You did capture how beautiful it is there.  Thanks so much for sharing.

Tracy...You are lucky!  Where ever we are, if it's truly the place we want to be we are very fortunate.  Do you take many photos yourself?

About Localism...I'm trying.  I finally put this post on there and then I tried to add a community (LAKE ANNA) and hit a brick wall. I won't give up.

Kathleen

Debbie...You've made me curious.  The way you said I captured the beauty of Lake Anna sounds like you know the lake area.   Thanks for commenting.

Kathleen

Darlene...Thank goodness for the edit feature.  Luckily I found that right away, not that I've found all my errors.

Thanks about the photos.  I did put this post on Localism and now trying to figure out how to add my community.  I'm hoping someone can help me.

Kathleen

P.S.  I just had to go back in and edit my very own name.  Can I blame it on the computer???  The H and G don't always do what I tell them.  Maybe I am wearing them out.

(11/14/07 05:27PM) — Eric Bouler

Most of my posts are to localism and am learning as I do them. I am redoing my website and figure its a good time to blog as I update a neighborhood.

Eric...maybe you can help me.  I'm trying to add a neighborhood and I followed the directions but hit a brick wall when I tried clicking the spot on the map.  I couldn't get the red icon.

Cheers, Kathleen

(11/14/07 11:46PM) — Jennifer Hartwick

I need to do that!  We have so many beautiful sites here in our town.  My focus as of late has always been to focus my camera on the children but now have a wonderful excuse to focus on this town that I hold so dear.  I'll need to become more active in posting to Localism.  Thanks so much for the reminder and additional information.

Jennifer...I understand so well.  My focus for so many years was my children.  For years I kept a camera on top of the refrigerator so it was always handy (they were bigger than and you couldn't just carry them around in your pocket) to take pictures of my children.  If I happened to look out in the yard and saw them doing something WONDERFUL I ran for the camera.  Being the ever loving mother, I thought they were always doing something that needed to be captured for posterity.

Now it is my grandchildren.  We are fortunate to have 10 of them from four to fourteen.  What a source for photos!  Typing this makes me realize I need to find a site that will let me share all my hundreds and hundreds (thousands?) of KID photos.

See you on Localism.

Cheers, Kathleen

Kathleen, why would you be intimidated by localism?  You seem an excellent representative for your area.

Ann Cumming had good advice - just post it like you are writing to your neighbors and friends where you live - because you are. Advertise your area, local happenings, outstanding people.

They will see it -  they will come - they need homes - they call you.

(11/15/07 12:14PM) — Vero Tabares

Oh the wonders of Virginia! Lucky you, and what a view!

(11/15/07 12:21PM) — MICHAEL CAREW

Great pictures!! Thanks for sharing--mike

Your photos are great. Don't be worried about posting. You will do great.

(11/15/07 01:03PM) — Judith Reppert

Kathleen, this is a perfectly good Localism post if you take out the part about your worries!  Go on, re-input a new one similar to this and post it on over there.  If I can do it, you can do it.  Nice pix!

(11/15/07 01:46PM) — Vincent Ambrose

I love your photos! Thank you for sharing them with us.

Hey Kathleen.  I remember that house!  I have a set of grand-parents up there on the water and we were just there in August.   My kids loved the water plane in the hanger!  What a great place to live, you lucky girl!

Go to localism and submit your pictures there.

Great pictures. There is always a Kodak moment out there. Share your pictures.

Brian...I've taken the leap.  Did one posting (actually I subsequently sent this one to Localism) and will be doing more.  Thanks.

Kathleen...I will take your advice - to take Ann Cummings' advice.  It would be great if they see IT and call.  (Like your name!)

Vero...Thank you.  I share your thoughts of Virginia.  It is my adopted home and I am very happy to be here.  I'm going to check out where you live.  I bet it's beautiful there also.

Mike...Thanks for your comment.  I'm glad you like the pictures.  It's fun to share them.

Bob & Carolin...As I told Mike (above) I've taken the plunge.  Thanks

Judith...Wish I'd had read your comment before I posted to Localism.  I would have taken your advise and left out the "worry" part.  Thanks.  I'll try to remember that next time.

Alma & Vincent...Glad you liked them.  It's fun to take them and even more fun to share.

Unknown...Wish I knew who you were.  I'd be checking out your photos and probably enjoying them.

Natalie...Where do your grandparents live?  What are their names?  I wonder if I know them.  Great that you recognized the house.  It's not mine but the views in the lower two photos are from my house.  Glad you know Lake Anna.
