Getting Connected at Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia

Though it rained on and off most of this afternoon, it was still a beautiful day to be at the lake. Trees are budding, daffodils are in bloom and the lake looks like it's back to its normal level. One of the things that's missing for many residents at Smith Mountain Lake is internet service. We haven't even turned a phone service on at our house, our cells work fine. For those who will be spending a week or two at the lake this summer, it'll be a challenge to find free Wi-Fi. Here are some of the locations you will be able to connect to the internet:

  • Liquid Lube & Wash - 13624 Booker T Washington Hwy, Moneta 540-719-0964
  • Moneta/SML Library 13641 Moneta Road, moneta 540-297-6474
  • The Pointe Restaurant 1217 Graves Harbor Trail, Huddleston 540-296-1215
  • Smith Mountain Coffee & Cafe Westlake Town Center 96 Builders Pride Drive, Moneta 540-721-3737
  • Westlake Country Club 360 Chestnut Creek Drive Hardy 540-721-3845

Debbie ~ I have been out of the rain a little more than I like to be lately.  I was just reading several of your local posts and wanted to tell you AGAIN, how impressed I am.  What a wonderful thing your doing for your community.  You rock!!

Brande, Thank you! I've been missing you and was going to email you tomorrow to see how Megan is doing. Do you have an address for her?

I do have an address. It is at the office and I will email it to you tomorrow :-)  She is doing ok, she has a medical issue that has kept her from going to Iraq so far, but I am not sure how long it will keep her in KY.  Thank you so much for asking.

Debbie, Gorgeous picture!!  We were at the lake today also.  My husband bought a sunfish this winter and he was ready to go try it out.  Persoanlly I will stick with our 22 foot sail boat.  I'm excited that we are hitting the season again.  This was our first time out since December.

I have taken my computer out thinking I might pick some wi-fi out on the lake but so far that hasn't worked.

Brande, I would love to write to Megan, definitely send her address. She's in my thoughts and prayers.

Thanks Marchel, it was so pretty today, though drizzly. We have an 18ft seadoo and we just love taking it out. We don't get up to the house enough, that has to change! Once we're living there full time, I would have the internet connected if possible, we're a ways out. Thanks for commenting.

In NY it  is not quite so spring-like yet, although we are seeing the odd signs here and there.  A few buds bravely appearing - but yesterday was COLD!  It was about 25F last night, so those poor brave buds had a lot to contend with.

It's interesting how hard it is to find  internet connectins (beyond the phone lines) in parts of the US.  We really need to be more like Europe in this regard.

Great blog as usual - and the area looks lovely.

Thanks Ruthmarie, Spring was teasing us....it was 60 Saturday and we woke up to hail on the ground on Sunday!

Great picture debbie, I've never been to smith mountain lake but have heard that it has great bass fishing and is alot of fun

Hi Charlie, This is a beautiful lake, I've never been fishing other than with a pole from a dock, but people really love their striper fishing( I couldn't tell the difference between a striper and a bass!). Apparently the best winter fishing is not too far from our cove.
