Brian, great post - I can't believe the prices.

It is amazing what a few hundred miles difference can make to prices. No wonder you are smiling in your picture

Funny thing about "down markets", they don't affect the super luxury buyers.  When you have that much money, you don't even have to care.

Good to see there are still healthy sales out there. But then again the luxury market is normally not hurt in a downturn and can actually increase.

Hi Brian,
It is an expensive area.  My brother lives in Great Falls and his business Old Dominion Animal Hospital (thought I'd give it a plug) is in McLean so I get up there ocassionally and am always amazed at the prices.

1200 block of Kirkwood TH for $936k?!!  I remember when the cape cods there were going for $230k.  Ok, so that was 1998, but still - at least those were SFHs with yards.  Wow!

JUDY:  Of course these are the super high priced homes -- not the average home in our area.

CHARLIE:  You don't even have to travel that far to make a difference -- 10 miles across town can make all the difference in the world in terms of pricing.

LENN:  So true.

HEATHER:  The luxury market is a whole different species from the overall housing market.

CYNTHIA:  Great Falls and McLean are the two highest priced areas here in Northern Virginia.

TCHAKA:  Yep!  Holy pricing moly!  Years of double digit price appreciation have sure changed things!

Brian - those are some really high prices!!!!!

BARBARA:  Yep, they ain't cheap!
