PURCELLVILLE IS HOME TO A LOVELY FARMERS MARKET FOR EARLY SPRING SHOPPING.

ANOTHER SURE SIGN OF SPRING IN LOUDOUN COUNTY, THE FARMERS MARKETS ARE OPEN . . . . . .

Delisious Whole Wheat Bread Tender Aquatic Grown Lettuce.

Whole wheat bread and tender tasty lettuce. Sounds like lunch. Some of this didn't make it home.

Tents set up in the parking lot of the Town Hall. A wonderful variety of early spring offerings.

Jams at Farmers Market

Items offered at this early Farmers Market include homemade blackberry, damson, strawberry jams. I bought the damson. Who doesn't love damson jam?

Other items included knitted scarfs, sausages, cheeses, fresh eggs, a variety of baked goods.

One stall had a lovely variety of fresh herbs. However, this I didn' buy because I grow thyme, oregano, basil and other tasty herbs in my sun room.

Soon our Farmers Markets will be offering a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. They usually come in around the first week in July. I can't wait.

Iknow Icould google it............but what is Damson? And why do you love it? :-)

Hi Lenn, How wonderful, sounds like a lot of good things at the farmers market today! Quite a contrast to our wintry weather.....and the whole wheat bread...would not have made it home with me!

We have a few small Farmers Markets in DC - but Nothing like out there.  Hmm... maybe I need a road trip to the country!

Liz.  It's a small not as sweet as it's larger relative, the plum.  Makes wonderful jams.

Mary.  HA!  I had a chunk of that broken off before getting out of the driveway.  I absolutely LOVE a good whole wheat bread.

James.  Come on out to my house and I'll take you on a tour.

Hi Lenn, There is nothing like a Farmers Market. I grew up in the mid-west but I don't recall the Damson jam. I would guess it is a berry of some sort and I could google it but I will bet your answer will be better and I would rather read from you anyway. :-)

William.  It's a small firm plum.  They're edible but best used for tarts and jams.  They were plentiful on my family's farm in NC where the soil is friendly.  Soil around here is rather heavy with clay and they don't always do well.  Which is why I couldn't resist the jam at the market.

The Occoquan Farmers Market opens on April 18th.  I'm looking forward to seeing fresh greens again.  Miss having a big garden.

Lenn,

Farmers markets rock...!!! Thanks,   Fran

Wow...Is your farmers market held right in the middle of a neighborhood??? Thats way cool. Ours are held in the middle of a commercial area. We have one off Riva Rd that the County made a special spot for with a building and everything. But then if we did we would not have all those wonderful roadside stands throughout the area. LOL

Oh gah, I could have run away with that entire basket of lettuce.  Yummy.  Funny the questions about damson - I''ve never heard of it either.  But down here we have quince jelly, and lots of folks don't know what that is....but you can get it at the Farmer's market.

I love, love, love spring and summer and the farmer's market and fresh everythings right out of the ground, or the water, like that lettuce.  Great photos, Lenn.

Lenn- Mmmmm, I see where you have been out and about to:)

I had a "healthy" dinner out with friends, and this is making me way hungry!

Lenn,

I live in northwest Iowa and I am soooo looking forward to our farmers market opening, I think it will be a while, it is snowing sideways and we are under a blizzard warning. Thanks for the great encouragement that Spring will eventually come.

Cindy.  Indeed.  Fresh greens are like candy to me.  I almost "killed" one of the three heads of lettuce before I got home.

Fran.  I believe everyone would agree.

Martha.  I'm in a much less dense area than you.  We have little markets spring up all over.  There's one in a Shell station parking lot in Poenian Springs, this one in the Town Hall parking lot in Purcellville and there's one every Tuesday afternoon in the parking lot of the building where folks check game in season.

Come July, though, we'll have an abundance of local farmers who sell their annual crops and I'll feel like a kid in a candy store.

Dedra.  Thanks.  I've had quince jelly but we always added apple for flavor.  I don't believe that there are many foods I haven't tried.

Katerina.  Yep.  Saturday is a good day to "get out and about".  The only phone calls I get are folks who think we can "jump up and go show them a house".  Our agents are all booked on the weekends.  Thank goodness.  I need more referral folks.

Patricia.  Having a dinner of healthful food just plain makes you feel good.

Georgia.  The only "fresh" we can get now is aquatic grown and herbs.  However, the farmers sell wonderful breads and home made items that are very exciting.

Nothing liked fresh picekd lettuce. My mother in law taught me to plant Black seeded Simpson which grows quickly and is so delicate. Soon the watercress will be coming in, can't wait.

Damsons, yes, they can be golden too,

Janice. I did also get watercress yesterday. I love watercress.  Imagine the salad we'll have today.

We really love the local farmers market here.  However just a bit early for us.

Mark.  It's early here too.  There are no local crops in as yet.  However, they sell their handicrafts, things like sausages, herbs, eggs, breads, aquatic grown things including tomatoes, etc.

I got some delicious lettuce and watercress.

Lenn, I can't wait for the farmers markets to start popping up around here again, I love fresh fruit and vegetables, and all the goodies they always seem to have.

Hi Lenn - I love farmers' markets and always look forward to the ones up here in my area starting back up.  Nothing beat fresh-picked locally-grown fruits and veggies, and all those gorgeous flowers they bring, too.  Soon!

Ann

Ann.  We're a bit ahead of you but soon. . . .

George.  Their produce is never as "pretty" as the super markets, but I know where it came from.

I like supporting local merchants, shops, services and farmers.

Hi Lenn... What a great looking farmers market.  I wish I had a close-up of the aquatic grown lettuce for my Fruitless Friday's posts! :)

Hi all. I lived what most people call the good life. I was happy, but deep inside I always felt that, with the short amount of time we are given to live and love in this world, we spend too much time loving things instead of people.
I am from Togo and too poorly know English, give please true I wrote the following sentence: "Subscribe to fosfor subscribe to fosfor via rss or sign up for our daily email newsletter."
