Self Defense Seminar in Reston, Virginia 8/13/11

The United States Karate Center, located on Isaac Newton Square in Reston, will offer the second self-defense course of the summer on Saturday, August 13 from 11:30 to 1:00 p.m.

I was fortunate enough to participate in the first course organized by Master John Thomas. The format was 1 teacher (amazingly qualified and talented instructors, I might add) to 1 or 2 students. The first course was designed for college students to teach them how to be safe as they travel around campus. This course will have the same sort of emphasis with some additional information added. It is appropriate, however, for all women who want to understand and be comfortable with self-defense.

This is a hands-on course. We learned how to stop an attack and minimize injury. I walked out of there, feeling like I learned more about self-defense in one hour than in the entire rest of my life.

It occurred to me that another group near and dear to my heart, female Realtors® would also benefit from this one-on-one training. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we are occasionally in situations where we are vulnerable. Knowing how to protect ourselves is critical.

The seminar costs $35. All proceeds from this event go to a charity to aid victims of domestic violence:
