Does Your Mail Box Measure UP?

mail box

If you live at a lake doesn't it make sense to have some lures on your mail box? Who knows what kind of mail you might catch.

It's fun to drive around and see what folks have done to personalize their mailboxes. Now believe me, we have some very "Plain Jane" boxes, like the one at the end of our driveway. Perhaps that is why I notice the ones with personality.

I also like the ones that may not be particularly different but the owners have taken the time to "dress" them up abit with flowers and other types of plants. Thought I would like to share some of my favorites with you.

Everytime I pass these I think of the American flag...red, white and blue.

The one to the right is a little bit country! It makes me think of antlers. Or is it saying to us, "so big" like we used to do when we were little children? Or does it look like a someone you know describing the fish that got away?

mailbox

Here's a Lake Anna neighbor that has such a green thumb they are able to "grow" ivy to decorate their mailbox. What Mother Nature doesn't do for you, do it yourself with a paintbrush.

mail box

No excuse for the mailman not to find this mailbox. Pretty nautical and very appropriate for Lake Anna.

In a contest for the Good, the Bad and the Ugly where would you place this one?

This "fish" appeared on my road one day. I now have the "pleasure" of seeing it each and every time I go out my driveway. Boy, has he got a big mouth! He'd probably make a great blogger! I bet he'd have some fish tales to tell us.

Out here in the country we must also find comfortable places for our cows and horses. This neighbor of mine gave his animals their very own barn. They just have to share with some bills and junk mail.

I wonder what type of "gifts" the postman finds in here.

Driving around Lake Anna can be interesting. Just be sure to keep your eyes open (and on the road too).

I like the blue one at 2316 but the fish is pretty creative too :D

Customizing a mail box shows great creativity and certainly a unique character. You dont see alot of unique mailboxes anymore. But you certainly have some there.

Kathleen, those are some fun and wacky mailboxes.  We used to have a mailbox with a planter and flowers on the backside.

Mine is from Lowes. It is black. Creative and unique. It has a red arm on the side.

Periodically, the snow plow hits mine, and when I put up a new one, someone damages the door immediately so that it is difficult to close right from the beginning.  So, it's like Richard's except it's from Home Depot.

Mine is not as "fancy" as these...just a plain old cedar looking thing...I feel so ashamed of my humble mailbox!

Kathleen, how wonderfully creative with the mailboxes by all your neighbors. Thanks for taking time to gather all the photos. Your mailman gets to view art each day. How cool.

Kathleen, I'm going to have to take a picture of a mailbox here in Eustis. It is a miniature version of the historic home it sits in fromt of. I love unique mailboxes and these are great.

Those are wild, I will have to get some photos of the ones I see around here. But I beleive you have us beat!!!

your friend in Charlottesville!

Kathleen, How cute they are!  I have a "horse" mailbox and people love it...I have to scout around and see if I have a picture of it :)

Kathleen:  Neat post!  What interesting mail boxes!  Must not be an HOA around to tell people NOT to do personal things like that.  I live in a community where conformity is everything.  Nice to see places that aren't like that.

I vote for the fish as the "ugly" one.  The "ivy" one comes in a close second.  I like the "nautical" one the best!  :)

I have to admit I like the fish best. Maybe because I don't have to see it everyday, but someone had a lot of fun getting that to work LOL

Nice pictures! These are really cool! Except that fish one, that is a little much for me, but to each their own!

Hi Ricardo...That blue one is pretty neat.

Thanks,

Kathleen

Hi Laura...Lots of individuality out here in the country.

Kathleen

Hi Brian...We may not have Nieman Marcus or Saks Fifth Ave. out here but we sure do have fun and wacky mailboxes.  Guess I'll settle for that.

Kathleen

Richard...Which side is the red arm on?  It may be an identical twin to mine...although I'm trying to remember if mine is dark green.  Guess I need to spend more time at home!

Kathleen

Hi Marie...Maybe mine is really like yours.  I'm really not sure if my husband bought it at Loew's, it may have come from Home Depot.

Now I may not have a "different" mailbox but it appears it is a mystery one!

Kathleen

Hi Gary...Definitely not humble.  Cedar!  How ritzy!

I am a plastic/rubber (I'm not sure which) mailbox owner.  True confessions.

Kathleen

Hi Gary...If you could only see the things that I take pictures of you would wonder if I have much time for anything else.

Kathleen

Hi JoEllen...Please share it with us when you do.

Thanks,

Kathleen

Hi Charles...We'd still love to see what you have down around Charolettesville.

Kathleen

Hi Carole...If you find it we'd like to see it.

Kathleen

Hi Chris Ann...Not much conformity down here.  We do have some gated communities around the lake which means they have their mailboxes in those big contraptions (gosh, maybe I should have taken a picture of one of them too) but fortunately most folks have what ever they want.

Kathleen

Hi Debi...I think that blue one is pretty special also.

Kathleen

Hi Sarah...I'm wondering if there is a woman living at Lake Anna that might dismantle that "prize" mailbox and ship it off to you.

Kathleen

Hi Rich...Thank goodness.  I don't know how I could send it to Sarah and to you.

Kathleen

Hi Naoma...Living in the country we are too far removed from fancy.  Plus, with these narrow country roads you do not want to be sideswiping anything made of brick.

Kathleen

I really like how they all appear to be handmade and not purchased in a store.
