I have lived in Virginia Beach since I was 6 years old, and I have come to think of Virginia Beach as home! I have seen it develop from a small city to a large city with over 500,000 residents! Over the years I have been able to watch our Navy pilot fly their A-6 Intruders, F-14 Tom cats ( I was sad to see the Navy retire those jets) if you ever had the opportunity to stand next to one, or see 3 or 4 of these jet fights perform maneuvers you would understand. The Navy replace the F-14 with the F-18, and I am told this is a really awesome machine.
I will post some pictures of an F-14 here soon.

Not only do we have The Navy's Master air base here we also have Damn neck and Little creek (Norfolk) the home of our Navy Seals. These guys get very little fan fair or press for the job(s). The next time to see or meet and active member of our armed forces - Thank them and their families. As I have said I grew up in a Navy town and I have seen first hand what my friends families have gone through when Dad was deployed.
Virginia Beach has some really cool parks. We have Fort Story, Sea Shore State Park - Oh I keep forget that they changed the name ( I told you I have lived here for a long time), Red wing park, and we even have our very own Aquarium.
The Virginia Marine Museum, our local aquarium, has seals, otters and sharks, but the otters and sharks are in separate tanks otherwise there would be a problem and dinner for the shark. But the museum provides tours of the wet lands, whale watching, and they rescue turtles and dolphins.
Sea Shore State Park, now called "First Landing", as you can probably guess I will never get use to the name change. This park has miles and miles and miles of walking and biking trails in the WOODS, that right real live trees with Spanish moss, and swamps ( though I think they call it something else) but it is really nice. After a 2 or 3 mile walk on one of the trails you can swim at the beach or just lay out in the sun. I will get picturs of this as well.

Now we can't forget the beach. The ocean front has a life all of its own. Bars, music and free concerts. During the year the city hosts many events here. There is the East Cost Surfing competition and the Neptune Festival just to name two. On 42nd street is the Cavalier Hotel. There are two builds the 'New Cavalier' and the 'Old' Cavalier. The old cavalier had a club called the Beach club, where there were cabanas, and within the beach club they actually had gambling (now its illegal). During WWII the military used the Old Cavalier as a look out post for German U boats. And if you like to dive, there are a couple UBoats off the coast.
