Over the years, either due to Active Rain hyper-local contests or personal interest I've ended up creating a series of blogs on one subject. Some of my favorites are about the history in our area and in particular a series of posts on historic churches in Northern Virginia.
This past week a young man asked if I could help point him in the direction of some local churches to photograph. Interesting enough the request came just after I had been going back through my Active Rain posts to review my keywords and tags. As a result it was easy to point him to number of historic churches in Northern Virginia he could consider for his project.

Working on a series for Active Rain is a great way to be able to compile information about your area that goes beyond the typical neighborhood post. It gives you something unique to include in neighborhood posts as well and if you might learn something new about your own area just by getting out and exploring.
It will be fun to start on a new series this winter that's been brewing in my head for awhile. The good thing about living in Northern Virginia is we have lots of opportunity to explore interesting historical sites close by.
