Exterior Mildew

You'll find that outside mildews will appear most often on unheated areas of the buildings that cool very quickly after the sun sets, these area can include eaves, decks, and porch ceilings, walls that face to the north, any walls that are shaded by trees and any other obstructions that restrict the sunlight and airflow are candidates.

Most often you'll find mildew in the same areas where dew forms. Even though mildew will not grow where the siding crosses studs and any other thermal bridges, mildew can thrive very will over the cooler, insulated bays between any studs, where any dew persists to provide the moisture needed by mildew.
