Stowe Land Trust - Stowe, Vermont
The mission of the Stowe Land Trust is dedicated to the conservation of scenic, recreational, and
productive farm and forest lands for the benefit of the greater Stowe community. The concept of the Stowe Land Trust evolved in 1986 when Johannes van Trapp, George Rau, and John McVickar became conerned about a rumored development for a 235 acre parcel. Eventually a local Stowe Group was incorporated as a non-profit organization which became know as "Friends of Stowe Conservation". In 1988 the organization successfully convinced the Stowe voters at Town Meeting to approve the acquisition and bonding of the Mayo Farm.
Since it's beginning, Stowe Land Trust has been responsible for preserving many parcels including Sunset Rock, the Moscow Recreation Field, Landmark Meadow, the Pinnalce Project, Bingham Falls, Adams Camp Heritage, and many more.
The Stowe Land Trust has throughout the years been successful at preserving open land from development. They have helped to maintain Stowe's character. Most of their funds come from donations. Thank you Stowe Land Trust for many jobs well done and for your future efforts to preserve land!
The video below was prepared by Stowe Land Trust and gives an overview of what the organization is all about. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
