My Town; Downtown Bellingham

There are many new buildings in downtown Bellingham, Washington that are interesting. The buildings I am posting here are all old. Some of them are on the National Registry of Historic Buildings. I hope you enjoy this pictorial.

Whatcom County Courthouse

This section of the Whatcom County Courthouse is fairly new. I believe they did a pretty good job of keeping faith to the original architectural style.

Bellingham City Hall

Also known as 6 flags over Bellingham, this is the City Hall.

Mount Baker Theatre

A classic of its type, the Mount Baker Theatre is on the National Registry.

Triangle Building

There are no square corners on this building.

Bellingham Tower

This is currently the tallest building in Bellingham. There are great views of the town, Western Washington University, Bellingham Bay and East to the mountains from the restaurant at the top.

Crown Plaza

This building, now called Crown Plaza, will always be known as the Bon Marche (for the department store that used to be here, now owned and operated by Macy's) Building.

Flat Iron Building

The Flat Iron Building is on the National Registry.

Bellingham Hardware Building

The Bellingham Hardware Building actually housed a hardware store, complete with wood floors, before it was converted to offices and residential twenty years ago.

Bellingham National Bank Building

The Bellingham National Bank Building continues to hold banking. As with banks everywhere, BNB was bought out by others, and through mergers and acquisitions, ultimately became a Key Bank property.

Bellingham YMCA

The Bellingham YMCA has occupied this corner for many years. A renovation was completed a couple of years ago, with one of the additions being one of the tallest indoor climbing walls in the northwest.

Bellingham Herald Building

The local paper.

The Daylight Building

I added this just because I like its look.

Former Greyhound Bus Station

The former Greyhound Bus station now houses a restaurant and bar.

Federal Building

The Bellingham Federal Building is also on the National Registry

I hope you enjoy this mini tour through some of downtown Bellingham's older buildings. As you may note, I truly love this spot on earth.

Thanks for looking
